Last Saigon Post

Mood

I can't figure it out....

Last but not least, the wonderful food we ate at Saigon. To be honest, I find roadside food much more tastier than the food we had in restaurant. In fact the last restaurant that we had was an upscale Vietnamese Cuisine Restaurant. We just hit it cause we didn't manage to find the Taiwan Shabu Shabu thanks to brother Thunder who remembered the wrong road. Food there cost 2 to 3 times more than the roadside one and it taste not as good as the roadside. If we are sharper we might have realize only foreigners are found in the restaurant. The Vietnamese are probably laughing their hats off at us eating at this pricey good for nothing restaurant. Experience was so bad, didn't even bother to take photo of the food. However to be fair, we also select the wrong food. Wrong food + Bad taste = Horrible experience.

So to concentrate on the really good food..... First is the MUST EAT pho. To eat the real Pho (pronounce: fur- as in the fur on the dog, fur) you must eat the beef fur pho (oops). Beef pho also got a lot one ok. To eat the really authentic one, we travel like 30 mins by taxi to District 5. The authentic pho according to Rain, contains beef organs, beef meat, beef balls (not the reproductive organ) and lastly just when it's about to serve, thinly sliced raw beef. You eat it with the hoardes of vege as a side dish. They are free flow. Since I don't eat any beef dead or alive, I ate the side dish of numerous veges. My comment- the taugeh in Ipoh is still the best.

This is not the authentic pho. Authentic one in Rain's camera. But this taste good according to Rain. Eaten at the roadside stall next to hotel.

While Rain busy tasting all the beef pho that she can find, I ate the pork kwei teow. Simple dish, no kicap or black sauce or oil like the ones back in Kampung. Rather, all the put is the fish sauce and 2 slabs of grill pork. Caution though, you gotta eat it with one eye closed. Reason being, the hygiene is not really top. If you are fussy enough, you are advised to only eat McD or KFC there. The pork is like a brother of char-siew but unlike char siew, the taste go deep in the meat cause they grill in small pieces.

Unfortunately, they don't have it here back in Kampung.

This is a common appetizer found in most Vietnam Restaurant and it's really the appetizer for Saigon people. Cheap too. Cost about SGD0.40 per roll. 2 rolls less than SGD1.00 and taste the same as those restaurant back in Kampung. I bet here cost like SGD2.00 per plate or something.

Me one Couz Rain one... sauce pedas though
Another porky dish, this one saute with some garlic and dish up with nuts. No idea what nuts, but it taste like satay dip with nuts. When we finish eating we saw the cook use the same spoon that she use to cook for us to drink and eat. YES SAME SPOON... lucky lunch was already in stomach. No idea what we will do if we saw it halfway. Abandon food? Continue eating? Demand money back? .....
Simple and yummy...
I believe I have more food photos than this. Must be in Couz Rain's camera. Anyway, I had the photos of my favorite food so there you have it.. the last blog of Saigon. I shall pet self on head for completing a travel blog.
